June Fly of the Month
This month's fly is the Chernobyl Ant.
Next Meeting: June 9th - Summer Picnic & Raffle
The summer picnic will be at the French Creek Pine Tree Picnic Area #1 – same pavilion as last year’s picnic. The entrance is on the north side of French Creek Road, just west of the railroad tracks, between Rt. 301 and E. River Road. The driveway to the picnic area follows a long tree-canopied road. Please note, this is not the same as the Nature Center.
Volunteer organizers and board members will begin setting up at 5:30; others should plan on arriving around 6:00 PM. The Club will provide plates, napkins, burgers, hot dogs, water and pop. Members are asked to bring a dish to share. The membership has been divided into the three groups below to even out the buffet. Besides your dish of food, members may also bring a guest, including a child or spouse or significant. The election of officers and the raffle will take place after dinner.
Each member is asked to bring an item to share:
Last name initial A-F = salad dish or appetizer;
J – R = vegetable or fruit;
S – Z = dessert
Firelands Fly Fishers Summer Vacation
Firelands Fly Fishers will not meet in July and August. Our meeting schedule resumes September 8. Please feel free to contact your board members during the summer with questions, concerns or future ideas. The board is listed at the end of each newsletter.
Fly Tying at Gander Mountain
The last of the fly tying sessions has been held. We will resume in the fall. Please give a big thanks to Tom Zmina for organizing 9 months of fly tying! Also, kudos to the kind people at Gander Mountain who made the sessions possible by allowing us to use their Lodge Room.
Rocky River Watershed Clean-ups
The Cleveland Metroparks and the Rocky River Watershed Council have scheduled two river cleanups. Both begin at 9 AM and end at Noon. The upper river cleanup in Middleburg Hts. and Berea will be on May 22 and the lower river cleanup will be held on June 5. For the upper river cleanup, please meet at Coe Lake Pavilion behind Berea City Hall. For the lower river clean up, please meet at the Scenic Park Picnic Area (just south of boat launch). For more info, please contact Jared Bartley, RR Watershed Coordinator, at jbartley@cuyahogaswcd.org

A reminder to all members and news to many new members – we have a library! Mike Janosko is our club librarian and has a very special bag (like Santa for Fly Fishermen) full of the items listed below. Materials can be "checked out" or borrowed for one month. Just sign out the item and leave a $5 deposit at one of our meetings and return it at the next meeting and get your $5 back!
We are also accepting donations of books or DVD’s to the library! If you would like to communicate with Mike in advance of a meeting, e-mail him at mjanosko@aol.com
